OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
The P&P STEAM program is a year-round series of interactive programs for middle-, high-school and college students, designed to bring science to life and nurture lifelong curiosity. Programs include Lunch & Learn Webinars, teacher externships, innovation challenges and mentorship with STEAM professionals from engineers to astronauts to surgeons. STEAM challenges students to combine imagination and STEAM learning to push the limits of what’s possible.
In addition, Pumps & Pipes has partnered with Houston Independent School District (HISD) and the Ion Houston to develop innovative educational opportunities throughout the year that can be incorporated into students’ STEAM curricula.

Lunch & Learn Webinars
This series of free, live webinars brings Pumps & Pipes education directly to classrooms around the world, introducing thousands of students and teachers to timely STEAM topics and encouraging discussion and creative learning projects. Past webinars taken students into a Houston Methodist Hospital operating room for a live aortic valve replacement surgery and to Mars and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to learn from scientists troubleshooting the InSight Mars Lander.
STEAM Summit
Each year during the Pumps & Pipes Symposium for professionals, Pumps & Pipes invites high school students to experience a concurrent event featuring special STEAM talks from the Symposium’s world-renowned speakers, team problem-solving challenges, hands-on technology demonstrations and the opportunity to meet industry mentors who can introduce students to exciting and varied STEAM career paths.
STEAM Challenges
Students from around Houston are invited to team up for STEAM challenges that test their creativity and STEAM ingenuity. Working with industry mentors and STEAM teachers, students have competed to fine-tune chemical reactions to power and race Chem-E cars, building and launch model trebuchets, and design and pitch innovative ideas to combat climate change. Students showcase these challenges at Pumps & Pipes symposia and webcasts.
